Useful Tips

          Writing a Submission
____________________________________________________________________

- Re-entering the awards for the second time - make sure you show 'enhancements' in your entry
- Make time - don't leave it to the last minute
- Create a submission team
- Get your colleagues involved
- Don’t leave the preparation to a junior
- Prepare each section in bullet point form first then flesh it out...that way you ensure you cover
all points in the space allowed

- Only use the allocated number of words...judges are advised to discontinue reading after the
  allocation has been met
- Brainstorm the questions with others
- Highlight each question at the beginning of each response
- Be particular with words, punctuate, proof-read and spell out acronyms
- Arrange an external review, along the way and on completion

              What the Judges Seek
_____________________________________________________________________

- Easy to read, concise, factual information
- Judges are seeking points of difference that make the submission stand out - innovation, excellence & achievements

- Clear & specific responses to the questions
- Evidence to back your claims
- A focus on quality not quantity

              Common Mistakes
_____________________________________________________________________

- Assuming judges know your business
- Leaving the submission to the last minute (most common mistake in previous 2 years)
- Not involving others
- Writing more than the allocated allowance
- Failure to really read and interpret criterion
- Relying on a belief ‘we’re good’, and not substantiating this
